Our Trip to the City

Sharing Inspiration With You

Your children will smash your understanding, knowledge and reality. You will be better off. Then they will leave. You will miss them forever. But I’m not pessimistic. Future generations not burdened by the egotism of having created wealth will be able to create a righteous society, live in harmony with nature and germinate culture from the few grains not yet destroyed.

Rules are good. Break them. Good designers (and writers and artists) make trouble. Eventually you’ll forget all this but there will be plenty of new ideas to choose from. And I believe that they’ll be better.

Everything is an experiment.

The perfect state of creative bliss is having power (you are 50) and knowing nothing (you are 9). This assures an interesting and successful outcome. As soon as you learn move on. You’ll see it better if you look upside down. Success = boredom. Mistakes, misunderstandings, and mis-comprehensions provide fresh ideas.

Education is an important endeavor to pursue. First of all, it means that you have to study for a lifetime (otherwise your students can easily get ahead of you). Secondly, it means that you get to cheat your own eventual obsolescence by being an active part of the pool of evolving knowledge of a school. Third and most important, it means that you can pay back the lifelong debt to some teacher or mentor out there that gave you the spirit of hope when you needed it most. To me, education is the highest form of intellectual philanthropy.

Experimentation is also an important endeavor to pursue. You can be an experimental educator of course, but you should also be an avid experimentor in your own work. Experiments can take the form of something exotic, but they do not necessarily have to be of an outlandish nature. Often the most obvious experiment is the most difficult to perform. I believe that students have the luxury of doing daily experimentation

Documentation of Election Night

Congratulations to Presiden-Elect Obama! Election night was a remarkable and magical experience. I will always remember exactly where I was when they announced that Barack Obama was to be the next President of the United States of America. It is almost impossible to describe the feeling that I had at the moment in time. We immediately starting hugging friends and random people and made our way outside to celebrate with the large group of people that had gathered. We watched Barack Obama’s speech, during which I was emotional. The night concluded by spending some more time with friends and going on a walk through the dark night to take it all in and make phone calls to friends elsewhere. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, you have mine and the world’s gratitude. Change Can Happen!

First Time Voting

This morning I voted for Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States of America. I went with my parents to the polls this morning and became part of history.

Today I spent some time making phone calls to battleground voters to make sure they went out to the polls and voted. Wished everyone a Happy Election Day. Wore my Yes We Can shirt and I Voted Today sticker. We will be having some large viewing parties around campus as well tonight.

To know that the world is going to change tonight is a little incomprehensible and highly anticipated. To simply put it, I feel absolutely happy today. Happy Election Day to you all!

Yesterday was Halloween

Halloween last night was a good time, kids came trick or treating in our dorms, we went to the sculpture department’s performance night and hung out with a bunch of friends late into the night. The first three photos are from the performance pieces at the school and the following ones are documentation of friends throughout the night. Wishing all of you a good weekend.

Fifty People, One Question

Fifty People, One Question is a beautiful and magical short film by Benjamin Reece. You need to take seven minutes and watch this. Watch the short film in high deffintion.

We had an idea. Go to a place. Ask fifty people the same question. Film their responses.

A Buildup of News and A Remixed Lifestyle

On August 30th I moved into my new living space at the University of Hartford where I am attending The Hartford Art School. I am very happy here and all the people are amazing. The photo above is of my roommate Jeff and I at one of the art shows.

The Hartford Art School is a remarkable place and I am very happy to be pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design here. It feels magical to be making art all the time, we go to the studio late at night to work and it is a great feeling to be producing creative work in this new atmosphere. The professors are very friendly and caring on top of just being knowledgeable and creative individuals. The way the school works is that the first year we all take the same courses as every other art student, this is called Foundation Year. This semester I have a great lineup of classes.

Drawing is providing an introduction to representational drawing, we have done a large self portrait, large charcoals drawings, interior and exterior spaces, photo reproduction and will be moving on to the figure shortly. 3D is a sculpture class in which we create three dimensional work and we are now focusing on linear pieces of work. And 2D Color is a color theory class based around painting, we have been doing color scales, abstract paintings, and exploring the way different colors work with other colors. As for non-artist classes I am taking a course on Western Heritage and a Rhetoric and Writing course.

The first week there was an Alumni Art Show that some friends of mine and I went to. This was before classes even started and it was great to see all the work in the gallery and talk with some of the teachers. The photos above are of us at the show and my two favorite pieces.

Then there was The Hartford Art School Faculty Show which was a great experience to see the artwork that our teachers have made recently. We met up with some of our teachers and the opening was packed. The photos above are from that show.

Several weeks ago, my mom and I attended the AIGA Design Gala event in New York City. It was a wonderful experience and that evening I was honored for receiving an AIGA Worldstudio Scholarship. I went on stage an took a bow and spent the rest of the night with fellow recipients and meeting designers and contributing artists to my book. I met Debbie Millman, Armin Vit, Troy Monroe and many others. I ran into Scott Belsky from Behance where I am interning. Also, Khoi Vinh came and introduced himself, he is the design director for the New York Times website. Stanley Hainsworth was generous enough to buy the table for the scholarship receipents and has been the creative director at Nike, Starbucks, and LEGO. Also, I was introduced to Richard Grefe, the executive director of the AIGA and Ivan Chermayeff, past AIGA Medalist. The photos above are from that night in the city.

We also attending Adam Machose’s solo show in Hartford. He is our drawing teacher and he presented a series of small acrylic portraits of friends and imaginary characters.

The completed manuscript for my first book, Creative Grab Bag, was sent off to my wonderful editor over at HOW Books at the end of August. I have received initial feedback on everything and they are very pleased with the outcome of the book and the direction we are moving forward with it. The book is scheduled to be published sometime later this year in the Spring of 2009. Thank you to everyone who has made the book what it is and to all of the contributing artists. It is a wonderful thing to create a book and I look forward to sharing it with you.

There have also been some changes around here on my weblog and personal website. The header has been designed as a cleaner version of the past one. As seen in the navigation at the top the structure of the site as also changed. The Blog is now located on the front page and the retired web address for the weblog is now serving as an archive. There is a Portfolio of graphic design work which will soon feature new work from The Hartford Art School, there is Books section which contains information on Creative Grab Bag and A New World Platform, along with the About section where you can learn more about myself.

In the Elsewhere section of the sidebar there have been the additions of Last.FM which tracks all of the music that I listen too and FriendFeed which combines all my online activity into one online space. For the time being Videos for Creatives, a weblog featuring video from the online creative world is being retired.

The other night we made some pasta in the kitchen on the bottom floor of our building. My roommate Jeff has started a radio show on campus and some friends and I sat in as guests for a little while. I got a typewriter for our place as well. And tried tea, some funky lights, and a live plant. A bunch of nights we worked in the studio for a while, late into the night. And during the week I get the New York Times for free, I read it every day. The photos below are from all of those experiences. You can see more pictures from all of the recent events including the art shows, the AIGA Design Gala, and my time at The Hartford Art School here.

The blog moving forward will have four main types of posts, Photography posts containing just photos from my life, Art School Work will feature photos from the work I have produced along with artists statements, Sharing Links will be a collection of links to other interesting things online, and then Normal Posts will be my own thoughts, stories, and projects.

I will soon be introducing a series of poster for sale, along with some new photography, recent projects from my art classes, and a brand new project that will document my art school career and life going forth in a new manner. Thanks to you all, your the best, see you soon.

Perhaps Scandinavia

I have an idea of where and how I would like to spend the later years of my life. I don’t ever want to retire but I think this is how I would like to end up and be able to live out the rest of my days.

I plan to build a small house that combines modern and rustic into one livable and well designed package. It will be located on the coast of a Scandinavian country maybe, possibly Denmark or Sweden. I will have a greenhouse and garden to grow plants and food. I will stock the kitchen shelves with cookbooks and create dishes of food that are full of color for us.

I will have tons of books and read them on the beach all day long. I will fly kites and kayak in the ocean. I will think and ponder the world, I will write, design, and paint. I will ultimately create there in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of nature. I will make my own scarves and mittens and build snowmen with my grandchildren when they come to visit us. I will learn to play the piano again and compose music that I can call my own.

The house will have wooden floors and big windows. There will be neighbors but they will not be close by. I will have a cat and dog that are best friends and they will play all day on the beach with us. I will ride a bike as my only mode of transportation.

I think this is what will make me happy.

It Must Be Summer Time

Summer is really here and I am already busy on tons of work. This summer I am doing freelance design work for my high school, going to be working on some shirt designs, booklets, and more. Will also being working for Behance as a marketing intern from my home and will be going to New York City several times to work in the studio and office with everyone there.

Of course I am going to working on Grab Bag Book which is being published by HOW Books next Spring, if you would like to participate please let me know. Here on the blog I am going to be focusing on some more design content, summer book and movie reviews, interviews with fellow bloggers and designers, and more.

Very soon I am planning on releasing a limited edition series of three prints to be sold together, so stay tuned for that. Also will be working on some other design related projects towards the end of summer, would like to do some work on shirts, pins, and products of that nature.

Lastly, I am available for freelance design work and projects this summer, please contact me if you are interested with the information in the sidebar. I think that is all for now.

Your truly, EB

We are the Consumers

We are always consuming,
Always buying, wanting, getting.
Never giving.

We, they, us, consume to much,
More than we should do,
Sometimes more than we want to.

Bad for the planet,
Bad for the environment,
In turn, bad for us, the consumer.

Why do we do it, why not just stop.
An addiction that we can’t get out of.
An addiction spread throughout society.

We are the consumers.

Ending and Starting

This has been my life for the past month and an amazing one at that. Below chronicles the end of my secondary education and the beginning of my higher education in the visual arts and graphic design. Within you will find numerous events that include the senior trip, prom, the art show, graduation, an island trip, this summer and the future.

To those people who I spent the last four years with, thank you. The experience of being part of such a small educational community as been very rewarding. When thinking back about these years, the best and most important part to me were the people. Apart from the obvious huge impact that my parents and brothers had, there are many other people that I worked and lived with. Thanks to all of you, the friends and students for the amazing times at school and out of school, the ones I knew well and didn’t know well, the ones that became more than teachers and turned into mentors and friends, the ones that looked over the school, made our food, maintained the school, and everyone else.

The senior class headed to a fancy mansion like place where they normally hold weddings and formal events for our Senior Trip. Here we spent the morning walking around the many fields and woods and then were served a sit down dinner by the senior teachers. This was after classes had ended and was the last event outside of school where it was just us, just the soon to be alumni.

The next event on our list was The Prom, the whole school was invited. It was held in the lobby and reception area of a nearby theater that provided an amazing environment and location for dinner and dancing.

Senioritis was the title of the senior art show that myself and my good friend Brian presented. It was great to see all the work we had created over the year finished and on the wall for everybody to see. The show had an opening reception that a record number of people turned out for along with a musical part. We both got amazing feedback about our work and sold a good amount of work as well.

The Senior Parent Dinner and Honors Ceremony came next and was the night before Graduation. Here numerous awards were presented for every aspect of educational and school life. I recieved The Minnie Rogers Steele Award for Excellence in Art. Every award is presented as a special book that pertains to that award, I recieved Street Sketch Book, Inside the Journals of International Street and Graffiti Artists by Tristan Manco.

The following morning was Graduation. The 140th Commencement at the school, when we were no longer students but alumni, where we recieved our diplomas, when we were all together for the last time, when all of our friends and family were watching, when people shared their advice and wisdom, when we collectively took thousands of photographs, when we formed a receiving line and everybody came through with hugs and hand shakes, and when we celebrated. When all of this happened it was over and it was for real.

At the graduation ceremony I was awarded the Alberta C. Edell Head of School Award for outstanding qualities that have been demonstrated by distinguished accomplishments during my time at the school.

Then sixty percent of us headed off the following week for three days on Block Island off the coast of the state of Rhode Island. Here, it was the most amazing thing to be on an island measuring two by seven miles, beaches on every side, one main street, and the bicycle the easiest mode of transportation. We spent endless hours on the beach, playing frisbee and volleyball, riding around the island, visiting light houses, eating sea food, have bonfires on the beach and so much more.

Then we had a bunch of parties for different people, went to see some movies, and on this Friday my mom and I are going to see John Stewart doing stand up comedy.

Plans for this summer include working for the school doing some design work, continuing to work with Behance as a marketing intern, finishing up Grab Bag Book, and of course tons of content here on the blog.

Thanks to my parents, family, friends, teachers, and all of you for everything. Looking forward to sharing the next part of my life, work, and education with you.

A Life of Variety is the Way to Go

In life I don’t want to be just one thing, do just one thing, have one road to go down. I have a variety of plans that are spread across multiple creative and business fields. While design will always be a main aspect there is so much to do.

Derek Powazek recently wrote this article on the subject.

I’ve often wrestled with this, because I’ve never been able to pick just one thing to be. I’m an artist and an entrepreneur. I’m a storyteller and performer in the spotlight, but also an editor and publisher who promotes others. I love words and pixels. I just can’t pick.

For many years I thought this inability to choose was a deficiency. Some sort of personal failure. But now I believe that it’s just part of being alive. At least, it is for me. I have a lot of masters. My challenge is to hold them in balance.

Rocking Out to the Beat of Life

Life has been pretty good these days. Been keeping busy with many aspects of life.

In the past couple days I have had an interview with Armin Vit published online at Speak Up, Josh Spear featured my projects, DesignNotes by Michael Surtees posted about my video of Kate and Mike, and Kate Bingaman-Burt posted about the video. Everybody was amazing with their kind words. Thanks all!

There is around 25 days of school left until I will move on and study graphic design. More about where I will be going to college soon. But school has been busy with tons of end of the year things to do.

Started to design the lights for the musical at school. This year we are doing The Mystery of Edwin Drood. It is based on Charles Dickens only unfinished novel and the show was written by Rupert Holmes. One of the most exciting parts of the show is when the audience gets to choose from hundreds of possible endings and then the we actually perform what they choose. Also have designed the poster for the show which I will post online soon.

I am having the ceremony for Eagle Scout this weekend. Been writing speeches, printing programs, and asking people to speak. Will be sharing some thoughts and stories from that day and from my career in scouting. Some photos should also be coming your way as well.

This past Friday two friends and I produced Open Mic Night for the school community. We had some musicians come play, some people read poetry, tell jokes, and more. One of the artists that played was Matt Carlson who is amazing and has his first record coming out soon. Designed the poster for this event which I will post soon.

That is all for now. Big thanks to everybody that I have been working with.

New York City

A little over a month ago some of my friends and I traveled to New York City for the day on an art trip. We visited the Museum of Modern Art where we saw Lucian Freud and the other exhibit. Finally, had the change to see the Helvetica exhibit and pretty successfully explained to some of my friends what was so awesome about the font. They seemed to get it an pointed out signs that were in Helvetica the rest of the day. Furthermore, I found some books in the store at the museum that were published by HOW Books, the same people that are publishing my book. Several pictures from the trip are below.

The Man Behind Adidas

Wanted to take a minute and share this animation about the story of Adi Dassler who was the pioneer of Adidas. The video has also been featured on my other online publication called Videos for Creatives. This is a frequent showcase of videos from the online creative community.

Creativity Can Solve Anything

Today at school I gave a speech to the entire student body on my belief that creativity can solve anything. It is part of a program where every senior has to prepare and deliver a speech on anything they want. The following is an excerpt of my speech which was very well received.

We constantly hear about wars, the environment, and the economy among other things.
There never seems to be any good news to spread these days.

However, there is hope and people all around the world are coming together to make effective changes. People are coming together and using their creativity to solve our global and local problems.

It is my belief that creativity can solve anything.

This type of creativity isn’t about working on a painting or designing a poster, but is about how people are thinking and developing new concepts to solve problems. By using the creative process we can then form better solutions.

It is my belief that if and when we bring creative thinking into the government and organizations that play both major and minor roles in the world, we as a society will be better off. We need a culture of innovation.

We are collaborating and connecting online to share our creativity.
We are applying our creativity to new business concepts that benefit other people.
We are making plans for the future based on creative thinking.

My wish is that people, governments and organizations start bringing creativity into it all.

Creativity Can Solve Anything.
Thank you.

Happy Easter

Just wanted to take a minute and wish everybody a Happy Easter. Hope everybody is doing well and got a day of relaxation. My two week break from school ended today but its not that bad, plus I got lots of candy.

Name in Print

Recently, I was the featured reader in Unlimited Magazine.
It is great business and culture magazine that is published in Canada.

Break from the Normal

For the next two weeks we are on break from school. It is a wonderful feeling, let me tell you. I stay up late working and then wake up late and the house is still and the sun is shining through the windows. These two weeks my work will span from Grab Bag Book and College Scholarships to Painting and Graphic Design. And let’s not forget this place, new written work is coming here tomorrow. Looking forward to sharing the awesome things I make in the coming days.

A New Place to Call Home

This is it. This is home. And it is all brand new!

Over the past couple weeks I have embarked on a course to re-design and re-structure my online identity and presence. Through the process I have gone through many designs and plans, and in the end went with what you are seeing now. The new design has a consistent header on all of the pages with my name and a new tag line, “Happily Creative”. There is the page title and then the navigation on the right hand side. The site uses multiple installations of Wordpress that are all linked together. While this is not ideal, it works and I know my way around Wordpress.

In case you didn’t know, before this site I had a separate site and different designs for the blog, the book websites, the portfolio, the main page, and all the other websites. So this is a huge step in a direction that makes it easier for people to use and view. It makes everything unified because the same design is used! And all the old sites now re-direct here, so don’t worry.

The Portfolio has new work to show.
The Videos for Creatives blog is getting tons of new videos very soon.
The Blog is going to have content posted daily.
The Grab Bag Book has a new home and updates are coming soon.

There is also an Information section which provides information about myself. Instead of having to put a little paragraph on each of my sites about myself, there is now one place that can be seen in the navigation throughout the entire site. In addition, there is a Projects section which is where smaller side projects are being hosted.

I am glad that you are here reading this today. If you have been around this place for a while, thanks for everything! If you are new to these grounds, welcome and please explore the site. It is a pleasure to have all of you here and I am proud to share with you this brand new site.

Thank you, Ethan.

Brand New

Hope everybody out there is doing well. This blog, as you can see, has got a new design. I finally fixed the terrible typography of the posts and switched to a serif title font. There is a new header and I made it more clean by removing the navigation tabs that didn’t really have a purpose. Other changes include the footer text, the time icon is gone, and new sidebar changes.

So with a brand new look, there is also brand new content on the way. I have just finished a large amount of work and for the rest of the year will be bringing constant content to this blog. I have missed sharing my ideas, stories, and thoughts with you here over the last month and that is about to change. Some articles coming soon include, The Story Behind My Creativity, The Importance of the Internet, Recent Film Viewings, Practicing Design, Literature and Design, Collaborative Consulting, Future of Telling Stories, and hopefully some great interviews.

Lastly, I am going to be re-launching and designing my online brand. There will be a new personal website, new portfolio website, new websites for both of my books, and new logotypes for them all. So keep a look out for those.

Thanks for being part of this all and help spread the word about what I am doing. Talk soon!

The Life of a Student

End of the Year

Some Gifts

Hope everybody is having a wonderful holiday season. Mine was a pretty successful one. Thanks to everyone who has been reading the site this past year, it is much appreciated. I am going to be taking the next couple days off to get some work done and do some relaxing, so I will be back soon. Happy New Year!

[Got some books for Christmas (above) that I will
soon be reviewing here on the blog.]

The Holiday Season

Several weeks ago the Christmas decorations were taken out of the attic.
The tree was put up. Christmas cards started coming in the mail.
We went to one of my friends christmas party.
My art teacher started playing Christmas music during class.
Snow has been falling. The menu for the twenty-fifth was planned.
It is time for the holiday season.

Lights

School ended this past Wednesday with a big holiday concert, school wide secret santa, and snow covering the ground. We went out to lunch to start of our next two weeks of freedom from school. Finally, time to get some stuff done. In these coming weeks I will be working on some final art work for my college portfolio, inviting some great artists to take part in Grab Bag Book, drawing a new series of type illustration, organizing and writing a new book, and just hanging out with family and friends during the holiday season.

Hats

Later on next week I will have some new content for the blog, including my review of Once, thoughts on playwriting, ideas for the future of storytelling, and more. So stay tuned, I would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

This Thing They Call the Internet

For a little bit I have been considering why the internet isn’t doing what I wish it was. My frustration is broken down into two areas: how we interact and communicate with people and how we publish and consume information and stories.

People

It seems that all these different tools and sites are just making it harder to communicate with the people we care about.

Facebook is getting messed up. Beacon. Tons of apps on profiles.
Google Reader new social network doesn’t work well.
Open ID doesn’t do enough. (Though it is a good first step)
Facebook isn’t that open.
Email isn’t good enough anymore.

I think the main problem is that I can’t keep track and interact with all the people I need to and want to by using one application. Facebook works for friends, email for family, Twitter for others. This is a problem, I agree that social network portability is needed. Everybody has email, but that doesn’t mean everybody is going to get Facebook. Facebook is great and all, but it is still seen as a social network, and people use email for their business, family, private, and social life.

We need a system that allows us to control all of our sites, allow each site where we have information and content to interact with each other, and make it easier for people to find friends. Open ID is a great start, but it doesn’t solve this problem.

A new system needs to be made. A system that is simple, open, and not for profit. Take Open ID and add some features. Allow people to have a profile that lists all of their other sites, social network profiles, and online presences. Have a way for me to message people and indicate how we know each other. Add a life-stream where what people do online is presented in a stream of information. Just make it so that people can track their friends and see what sites they are using. That’s it, nothing else.

Consuming and Publishing

While it easy to publish content and consume it online, it could be easier and more effective.

Feed readers are poorly designed.
Some blogs are no conversational enough and aren’t that authentic
Passing content around and re-publishing is fine, but making original content is even better.

We need a new tool. It needs to allow us to publish any kind of content we want: photos, blog posts, videos, tweets, and more. Then based on the kind of content, we need to be able to consume it. Videos need special treatment, so design it so that different types of content are viewed properly. Make it easy to share with people and save items for later. Add filters and make it organized. Then use the new system for managing people on top of it all.

Anyways, looking toward the future of the internet…I think that we will see developments in online and mobile video this year, along with re-inventing the way stories are told online. And maybe we can even work on fixing some of the things this post talks about.

What do you think we should do to solve this problem and what do you seeing being the big developments this coming year?

These are just some first thoughts on the issue and might not be the best move for the internet community, let me know what you think.

This Past Week

Alright, so it has been a little quiet here on the blog. So, I thought I would give an overview of what has been going on for the past week. This is where I have been, what I have been doing, and more.

Last Thursday through Sunday (6th through 9th) eleven of my friends and I headed up to Boston for Harvard Model UN. This is a huge simulation of the United Nations with thousands of high school students from schools around the world. We are broken into committees that debate certain issues and each school has to represent a different countries’ views. It all took place in the Sheraton where the Prudential Center is. Some highlights from the trip include meeting with Shel Israel, eating pizza six times, dinner on Newbury Street, going over to Cambridge for a day, and making a video of the whole thing.

Then we had a week of school. We rang the bell for the Salvation Army. Friends starting getting into college, so congrats to all of them. I announced that my first book is being published. We had a snow day and a delay in the morning. And then the week ended with a Christmas party on Friday night.

On Saturday (yesterday), two friends and I headed down to New York City for the day. We went to see the tree, the Nike Store, the M&M store, the huge toy store, went out to lunch, then we went to see Spamalot at the Shubert Theater on Broadway.

That is about it. Only two and half more days of school left. And then it is time for Christmas. Hopefully I will be getting a good amount of stuff done in the coming weeks and I look forward to sharing all that with you.

Managing People

Managing the people that I connect with is starting to become a problem. (Not the people I talk to often, but the other ones that I have connected with that I don’t talk to as frequently) I am fine with keeping all of their names and information in some sort of address book. In this address book I could keep notes on our conversations and what the connection is between us. But the problem is that they can not see the address book. This means that they do not know our connection or can not see our past conversations. My main concern are the problems this leads to down the road. When I attempt to contact someone in a couple years that I only talked to through email a couple times, will they remember? There is a good chance that they won’t and then a valuable connection I made in the past is lost.

I can simply find the last email that was sent and click reply. That way they can see what we have said in the past, but that gets messy, you can’t change the subject, and people don’t always scroll down to see all of that. Facebook, Plaxo, and other social networks and tools don’t work well because not everybody uses them. I really enjoy the way Highrise works but not sure how to make it work for what I need.

Any suggestions out there. How can I make this work?

The Grocery Store

For some time now I have been wanting to take a camera to the grocery store and photograph the shelves of food . A couple days ago I finally got around to it and was lucky to have one of the low-end Canon DSLR cameras from school. There is something that I really like about these photos, perhaps it is because each photo has the same color throughout it and features the same item countless times.

Meat

Greens

Dressings

As Thanksgiving approaches us we should all be thankful for the food (as in the photos above) that we will enjoy and realize that others aren’t as lucky. Be thankful for your friends, family and for your life. Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall, almost Winter

Leaves

The leaves have fallen from the trees.
The yard is not raked.
The pumpkin is still on the porch.
It is cold outside.
Hats and scarves have found their way out of the closet.
Winter jackets have come along too.
It flurried the other day.
Thanksgiving is coming.

It is Fall, almost Winter.

Behance and Macteens

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have joined on with Macteens as a staff writer. Macteens is an online apple and technology news website targeted toward the younger crowd. I was invited to become a writer for them around the end of summer and have written two pieces that will be posted on the site shortly. I’ll be sure to let you know when they are up.

In addition, I have also been working with Behance as a “remote” intern doing online marketing and advertising. Behance has recently launched the Behance Network, a platform for creative portfolios, projects, and collaborations. My first move was to set up a group on Facebook and start using Twitter.

Thanks to both Behance and Macteens for the great experience so far.

A Community Service Project

Laying it out

I am currently engaged in a community service project I started. We are building a bench and a sign that is surrounded by a garden. This will act as the starting point for a self guided walking historical tour of my town. There will be a map and brohure that you can take from the starting point or download off the internet and proceed to learn about the town’s history. We have planted the garden and are in the process of finishin up the bench.

Thanks to the people I have already met and thanks to the one I will eventually meet one day. The day when we meet in a Italian street market, or when we sit down over a cup of tea in your London apartment, or when I hike into your remote village in the middle of Africa, is highly anticipated. The stories, ideas, and thoughts that we share will be the best gift anyone could give me. And for that future when are paths cross, I am grateful.
